Makioba Susan Bob-Manuel Olugbile is one of Nigeria’s finest talents, globally admired for her exquisite couture and ready to wear creations. She established her self-named brand in 2013 with a desire to explore her creative influences and produce designs that would make every woman feel stylish and beautiful no matter her size.  Born and raised in the vibrant and colourful city of Port Harcourt, River State Nigeria, Makioba was inspired by the rich and tasteful culture of her Kalabari origins. Aside from her lush heritage, her family also played a huge role in shaping her fashion sense as her grandfather was very well known for his uber sense of style and polished appearance. Makioba grew up walking in the footstep of many great fashion authorities around her. As a university undergraduate, she started fusing all her inspirations to create her personal style signature and while studying Economics at the prestigious university of Port Harcourt, she received many compliments from her schoolmates about her fashion forward sense. The admiration didn’t distract her from her educational goals as she was working and schooling throughout her school years, which groomed her to be a hard and zealous worker she landed a job at a reputable oil and gas company in Port Harcourt soon after graduation.

Enticed by fashion, she switched her focus and sort to fuel her creative interests by relocating to the city of Lagos to enroll in a fashion design programme from House of Henri Fashion & Arts Academy. Starting her journey into the world of fashion, she converted her guestroom into a tailoring workshop while still fulfilling her work and marriage duties full time. With her eyes set on her goals, Makioba worked tirelessly through the nights and weekends to meet up with the increasing demands and eventually she quit her job to focus full time on her skills. What started in her guestroom swiftly exploded into spaces in her living room, passages and every corner of her apartment, one day her husband Engr.  Tunmise Olugbile returned home from work to meet their living room packed full with clients trying out clothes and mannequins carrying Makioba’s designs.  Already a huge supporter of her work and skills, her husband 13734405_702118356592861_1358649601_nencouraged her into expanding her business and a few weeks later Makioba relocated her workshop into a four bedroom studio apartment. The expansion of her fashion brand birthed her journey to becoming one of the most sought-after names for haute couture in Africa.

Makioba started modeling her flattering and feminine pieces soon after the expansion and this created a strong following of plus size women like herself. She broke down fashion stereotypes and reinvented trends to suit curves in the fiercest ways, women and fashion figures started taking notes of her style and her brand started to transcend into a leading plus size powerhouse in Nigeria. Since then, Makioba’s pieces have received numerous praises and have also captured the hearts of many fashion lovers, celebrities and media houses in Africa and beyond. Makioba as an agent of change and inspiration for women has continued to deliver outstanding craftsmanship through the ever shifting and evolving fashion scope, and further engaging in dialogue that pushes a confidently unique style culture beyond the restraints of size.Sitting at the helm of the creative affairs,

With a lineup of celebrities like Chigurl, Taje Prest, Dami Elebe, Tolu Oniru “Toolz”, Caroline King, Dayo Amusa, Latasha Ngwube, Lydia Forson, Vimbai Mutinhiri, Michelle Dede and many others championing her pieces, it’s evident that the Makioba label is here to stay the sky is the limit.
